“…Ha Noi has a special color to it, a vibe that is indescribable. It is familiar yet distant, being my “official” hometown on records, yet so distant that every visit contributes to a distinct memory about the city. I was grateful that I brought with myself a vintage role of Fuji Eterna 400D, for it describes exactly this feeling of mine through the unique color rendering of the film. Hanoi is known for its rich history—there’s a reason why we call it the Old Quarter. This roll aided my composition in finding the old things still lingering in Ha Noi—it rendered highlights, especially the sunlight, with an especially, unusually “cold” tone of yellow: something that looks similar to my grandparent’s snapshots that spend its history faded in the photo albums. The shadows in some shots are misted by a layer of purple, that immediately upon looking at the photo, brought me back to the candid photos of Ha Noi during the late 20th century. Everything about this roll speaks Ha Noi colors, and gave a nod to its rich history.”
